Hiraeth is a welsh word that has no direct english translation. It has been defined as “A deep, wistful, nostalgic sense of longing for home; a home that is no longer or perhaps never was. A yearing and wistful grief for things and people long gone.”
The term Hiraeth perhaps describes a feeling felt by many here in NZ, or in fact anywhere in the world, for those of us who roam.  A tangled confusion of familiarity, feelings and memories, torn between two different landscapes that are both in their own way home.
